Alex de Minaur has become the first Australian man in 20 years to reach the last eight of the French Open after producing a brilliant performance to defeat Russian Karen Khachanov in straight sets on Monday.

The 23-year-old de Minaur, who is seeded 20th at Roland Garros, was too strong for Khachanov, winning 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 in two hours and nine minutes.

De Minaur is the first Australian man to reach the French Open quarter-finals since Lleyton Hewitt in 2001.
